Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does it take?

It usually takes about 8-12 weeks from the initial design consultation to the finished printed invitation suite. You will have 3 initial design concepts and 3 rounds of changes. Within that time is 3-4 weeks for production.

For semi-custom designs from the Silverplate Press Wedding Collection, the production time is 4-5 weeks. Shipping is not included in the time estimate.

  • When do i need to book my invitations?

Like with all your favorite wedding vendors, it’s best to book early. I only take on 3-4 custom design clients per month,

To reserve your spot, contact me 12-18 months before your wedding for save-the-dates, and 8-12 months before your wedding if you’d like to send just invitations and day-of wedding stationery.

  • What is letterpress?

Letterpress printing is a style of printing that goes back to the invention of the printing press. All letterpress printing is made on an antique printing press and leaves a beautiful deep impression in the paper. This impression used to be considered a flaw when these presses where being used (pre-computers) and now this impression is how the printing process is distinguished. Making letterpress perfectly imperfect!

  • Is letterpress worth it?

Letterpress printing is the highest quality printing method available. There’s just nothing that beats its beauty and its uniqueness. It’s all a personal preference, and although costs more, the result is not something that you’d be able to print at home. It will not be mistaken as a DIY invitation and has an elegance to it, no matter the design style (rustic, elegant, minimal, whatever), the fine quality of letterpress is not unseen.

  • how much do custom invitations cost?

Custom invitations are designed to be exactly what you want and need. The cost can vary quite a bit depending on which cards you’d like, how many, and what printing methods you’d like. Not to mention the amazing embellishments like wax seals, envelopes liners, and all the goodies that make your invitations even more special. Digital address is complimentary, which means you won’t need to write out each address by hand! We also partner with a select number of calligraphers if you’d like to add calligraphy to your envelopes. Typically custom clients will budget between $3000 – $7000+ on all their wedding stationery.

If this is not for you, the semi-custom designs in the wedding collection may be a better choice.

  • Where are the invitations made?

All invitations are made in Canada in the small town of Belleville, Ontario. I print all the stationery in-house, on one of my antique printing presses. Letterpress and foil options are done this way, and digital printing is done on a high-end digital printer. Materials come from all over the world, depending on choices. I’ve taken great care in finding the world’s best papers, envelopes, wax seals, etc. so that the quality is incredible.
